E112 Jay Leonard

Social Kindred

This week we are joined by Jay Leonard - the company owner and director of the mobile app Social Kindred (iOS and Android)- a hub for promoting the local nightlife, cultural, food and entertainment scene in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and surrounding areas. Jay is also the drummer and band leader of local band Romeo Sex Fighter.

Jay got his start in The Industry when he started working at the age of 13 in family diners and breakfast joints. Jay started working the entry level positions of dish pit and greeter/busboy and this became his industry education. Eventually Jay moved into food prep and food runner. By the time Jay turned 18, he became a sever and within a year, Jay was training the new staff members on all aspects of front of house. By this point of his early Industry career, Jay was expediting or managing working in detail oriented fine dining service establishments or the fast pace of pubs.

After nearly 10 years of food service under his belt, Jay was fortunate enough to join the music end of the nightlife industry. Jay has been a part of the original music scene, touring Canada and the British isles, sponsored events in Japan and across the U.S. Jay has played in bands of all genres from Bluegrass, Jazz, Celtic and Pop Rock. Currently he spends his time in music as band leader in Romeo Sex Fighter, a local fan favourite party band where most of the shows are on corporate stages.

For the last seven years Jay has devoted his time to developing a mobile app platform that promotes nightlife as an industry. This includes events such as food and dining, music, pub trivia, stand-up comedy, burlesque, cultural events - essentially anything that is fun and gets people involved in supporting local nightlife. The app is called Social Kindred and it is expected to make its official launch Summer 2022.

Romeo Sex Fighter is playing live this coming Friday May 27, 2022 at the Moose Lodge in Kitchener. Tickets are $20
