Be As Thoughtful For The Area Where You Live As You Possibly Can
This week we are joined by Liz Furlong. A Canadian based out of Costa Rica, Liz Furlong has become known as one of Central America's most prominent mixologists. Experimenting with local botanicals and ferments, she takes advantage of her fertile surroundings to forage and collect ingredients for her cocktails with a style she likes to call “Jungle Bartending”
Since 2012, Liz has spent her time working closely with chefs and farms, consulting for restaurant and hotel clients throughout Latin and North America.
Her bar, Bebedero, opened in 2017 in the historic center of San José, Costa Rica. Bebedero was one of the country’s first cocktail bars, focusing on the use of local ingredients from the rainforests of Central America to encourage biodiversity and conservation. In 2020, Bebedero was a Tales of the Cocktail Regional Top Ten Honoree for Best International Cocktail Bar in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Bebedero will soon reopen its doors, but for the moment they are offering services online and directly to the comfort of your home. You can also expect a new bar project, Curandero, based out of San José, Costa Rica, from her soon.
Liz is also the founder of La Sociedad del Cóctel (The Cocktail Society), a bartender’s guild offering free training and lifestyle tools to bartenders in Central America.
